Peter Yarrow is apparently rather angry with the National Organization for Marriage. One of the trio Peter, Paul & Mary sent Brian Brown of NOM a cease and desist order regarding the use of the cover version of “This Land is Your Land” that was done by Peter, Paul & Mary. Of course, perhaps explaining to Brown and company that the song that they are busy using as their anthem is actually a socialist song, and originally included the following lyrics:
As I went walking, I saw a sign there,
And on the sign there, It said “no trespassing.”
But on the other side, it didn’t say nothing!
That side was made for you and me.In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;
By the relief office, I’d seen my people.
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,
Is this land made for you and me?
The song was written by Woody Guthrie because of his disdain for “God Bless America”, and after his experiences crossing the nation including seeing a lot of the horrible parts of the way that the nation treated its people.

nazcalito,
If you care to do some research into the trio Peter, Paul, & Mary you will discover that they have been at the forefront of activism, championing the causes of those who are not treated equal, for many many years.
It’s a shame when people who don’t know what they’re talking about, which you obviously don’t, insist on spouting crap like this!

uh-huh — so Peter Paul and Mary took out Woody’s socialist lyrics so that they could turn the song into a slick commercial piece and make money? The expurgated version has been used since for everything including advertising Texas banks, and now PP&M are getting on their high horses because NOM wants to use it too? There was a reason PP&M were “folk” singers. For the most part, they couldn’t write their own material and sung stuff by Guthrie and Dylan and Seeger and whoever else was capable of writing songs. PP&M were the 1960s version of karaoke singers. Which is why people got tired of the whole folk song thing back then and started insisting that artists do their own stuff.

Actually, Guthrie’s lyrics were changed long before then.
