Anne and Liz got married in California in the brief interval when same sex marriage was legal and before Prop 8 was passed. After Prop 8 passed and their union remained valid while their friends were denied that right, really struck a chord with them. They are two women who weren’t content to be happy as long as they got theirs, they wanted everyone to be able to experience the joy of marriage.
Today, it was announced that same-sex couples in California will be allowed to marry from August 19th onward. This couple’s story is powerful in that it reminds us of what we have suffered and how far we still have to go. Although Prop 8 is gone, we still have a long road ahead of us.
