Georgia Senator Sacks Homophobe Who Left Derogatory Comments On LGBT Blog

09/30/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
The staffer for Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia known only as “Jimmy” has been fired from his job. “Jimmy” wrote the comment “all faggots must die” on a number of websites, but it was Joe Jervis of Joe My God who caught it. “Jimmy” visited at least two websites, and probably more, to leave that comment or similar ones, but many sites, such as LGR, tend to filter such comments out rather quickly. Jervis traced the IP number to an address in Atlanta, GA that had been registered by the US Senate.

Despite the fact that openly gay Representative Jared Polis offered to help find out who this “Jimmy” was, Chamblis handed over the investigation to the Senate’s Sergeant at Arms, the person who runs the Senate IT system. According to Chambliss’ statement

“The office of the Senate Sergeant at Arms has concluded its investigation, and I responded to that report immediately with the removal of a member of my staff. I have called Mr. Jervis, the blog’s author, and apologized to him personally, and I am sorry for the hurt this incident has caused,” he said. “Regardless of one’s position on issues and policies, such comments are simply unacceptable, are not befitting those who work in the U.S. Senate, and I will not tolerate them from my staff.”

Jervis did indicate that Chambliss had contacted him to offer his apologies.

The only thing Saxby is sorry about is getting caught.
