Jane Lynch Says Ellen DeGeneres Made it Easier to Come Out

Jane Lynch will be on Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show today, in the preview of the episode Jane tells Ellen that it was easier for her to come out because Ellen was already out.

“I was more closeted in my life when I was younger,” she said. “By the time I started to do work and people knew who I was, I just never made the choice to hide that I was gay…That [Ellen coming out] just blazed the trail for me,” she said. “It made it so much easier for me when you came out.” [Source]

Jane also mentioned that she knows it’s a little easier for her to come out in Hollywood because she is a ‘character actor’ and not a romantic lead, like Julia Roberts. Except of course, in the L Word, when Jane played a romantic interest and got hot and heavy with Cybil Shepard’s character. Jane and Ellen joked about romantic leads like Julia Roberts being gay saying:

“So you’re saying Julia Roberts is gay?” Ellen joked.

“That’s what I’m saying,” said Jane.
