DOD FED GLOBE has released this video about the Sanctuary Project, which educates the viewer about the ministry that supports LGBT servicemembers.
The Sanctuary Project exists as an open and affirming ministry for LGBT service members who are serving in a working and often living environment that is hostile toward LGBT people.
The military’s discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Don’t” (DADT) policy has fostered the often-hostile work environment and the Sanctuary Project offers help by providing safety and support for LGBT servicemembers who are frequently harassed and sometimes in danger of losing their military careers or even their lives.
The Sanctuary Project Website:- advocates for “Your Right to Serve Our Country and the Freedom to Serve in Your True Essence.” Our goal is to amend the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Under military law, “being lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) is grounds for discharge under current regulations, if disclosed. The Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy is a “compromise”: Orientation is a private matter. Character is not built on orientation.”
In the video, Sanctuary Project co-director Linda Sanders discusses why she is so passionate about the ministry and why it came out.
