It wasn’t what I hoped it would be. I love Jon Stewart, but I feel he could have gone further. I missed a few minutes (due to a nature call for the dog), but as far as I could tell the only point that he came anywhere near to talking about LGBT issues was to mention immigration reform (UAFA being included in CIR), and that was only in a list of other issues that he felt should have been dealt with by now.
The whole thing smacked of being restricted to what the President was either prepared, or advised to by others, to talk about. I imagine that Jon would have been more of his usual challenging self if he has been free to do so.
I don’t expect Obama to have worked miracles in two years. After all you can’t rebuild in two years what took eight years to destroy, but this has to be a wake up call for the Democrats. He seems weary of the whole thing now, and I’m not surprised, but we need more than this. I agreed with him that the political progress needs to be resolved as, amongst other things, the use of the filibuster has gone way out of control. The Republicans are holding them to ransom.
I am learning about the political process here, but surely there must be more that can be done to stop the ridiculous antics of the Republican party.
