Kye Allums, NCAA basketball player, GWU Student and Transgender Male: An Awesome Person!

11/05/10-by Chloe Springfield.
Stop whatever you’re doing and watch this AP Story on and interview with Kye Allums. As you know Kye is the first openly transgender player to participate in NCAA Division I Basketball.

When was the last time you saw a student athlete with such poise, warmth and conviction of spirit? His message is awesome. His decision to hold off on hormones is due, in part, to his decision to finish college. Without his basketball scholarship, he would have to drop out.

We can only imagine the scrutiny he will be under. We can only cringe at what yahoos on and off the court will say about him. Fortunately, his coach and team are solidly behind him.

Virtually overnight, Kye has probably become the most reported on NCAA Women’s Basketball star. She’s also perhaps on the most famous transgender athlete since Renee Richards.

Here’s hoping his life is ‘nothing but net’ for him!
