Melanie Nathan – Dec 06, 2010 - David Bahati, the Ugandan MP who authored the Kill Gays Bill in Uganda obtained a single event visa to come to the USA to attend a conference. Unlike other MPs, the American mission in Kampala gave him a single-entry visa specifically for one specific event, that is according to the Ugandan Press and an article by Dr. Warren Throckmorten.
Straight ally Throckmorton, who has been reporting on this story informed me that he had also been in direct contact with both Bahati and the Conference organizers last week, and that although organizers had said they would not allow Bahati into the Conference, Bahati had said he still planned on attending and coming to the USA regardless. The Conference organizers, IGCFM said he had only e-mailed an application indicating intent to attend; and that he had not yet paid for the event – and further if he tried to pay his money and application would be rejected – they also told LGR that BAHATI is banned from attending the Conference and he would be locked out. We believe and evidence points to the fact that BAHATI knew this before entering into the USA, meaning his entrance could be illegal and his application for the VISA and acting upon it, fraudulent.
According to a recent update on Throckmorton site Bahati is a no-show at the ICGFM conference, today. (Mon 6th) ” ICGFM spokesman Doug Hadden told Warren Throckmorton that some delegates from Uganda are attending but Mr. Bahati has apparently has not made an attempt to enter.” Our source provided the same information. Throckmorton who has been in telephone contact told LGR that he believes BAHATI is in the USA or traveling because his cell phone is off.
Throckmorton points out in his updated piece at, http://wthrockmorton.com/2010/12/06/uganda-monitor-covers-the-bahati-trip-to-dc/ “Interesting claim Bahati’s visa is specifically for the event which he now cannot attend.”
According to the intent of a ‘Single Event “A” VISA,’ Bahati is expected to enter the USA ONLY for the purpose of attending that event and no other business at all. Bahati may well be breaking the law; knowing that he has been denied entry to the Conference and yet still using that VISA for what then is tantamount to breaking the law. What makes it worse is it is now evident that he may not even have attempted to try and get into the Conference, which is what the ICGFM has informed us.
Can Bahati hide behind Diplomatic immunity? – He must surely have entered the USA on a Diplomat passport? What happens when a foreign diplomat enters the USA under false pretenses? Why did Bahati only apply for a single event VISA?
Two Ugandan Newspapers reported and referencing LGR’s publicity about a Petition on Change.org - in an Article, entitled The ” GAYS PETITION CLINTON TO STOP BAHATI” saying, “Mr Bahati and five other MPs are scheduled to attend a financial management conference of practitioners in the US starting tomorrow. The gays also want to demonstrate at the venue of the meeting to show their distaste of the Bill and Mr Bahati. But Mr Bahati said he would continue with his trip.”
What is most insidious is the likelihood that Bahati’s ultimate intent and plan in being here in the US is to garnish support of his US collaborators , which include specific Evangelical co-conspirators, to support his run for the next Ugandan Parliament, for a campaign based very much on the Kill Gay Hate Bill that he has already introduced to the Ugandan Parliament.
We previously reported our interest as a community in protesting and making Bahati feel most unwelcome – however we believe that his presence here will provide American authorities with evidence of who BAHATI’s allies are, in his quest to murder gay and lesbian (LGBT) Ugandans and their straight allies. His legislation in writing – not yet law- proves his intent.
One can only wonder if in doing so here on US SOIL, while in the country illegally, could subject the Ugandan MP to arrest? Does diplomatic immunity apply if you enter as country illegally? Because we have hate crimes legislation – collusion to murder gays, under the guise of legal death sentence ot my way of thinking is indeed a crime here in the USA and would involve BAHATI and anyone who he talks to. Also a collusion could be detected in involving Americans in breaching the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on US soil as compared to on UGANDAN soil.
Places where he will be staying – UGANDA HOUSE in NYC – Uganda Embassy D.C.
Because his VISA depends on his attendance, LGR requested written confirmation from ICGFM regarding BAHATI’s failure to register which means he is either in the USA illegally or not here at all – here is a copy of the confirmation:

“There seems to be some interest into the whereabouts of David Bahati. In my volunteer role as VP of Communications for ICGFM, I can confirm that he is not at our conference, nor will he be permitted to enter the conference. As you can imagine, from a very non-political organization, doing good work in sharing good practices in public financial management, we have been placed in a very uncomfortable position.”
“I cannot speculate whether Mr. Bahati is in the United States. And, if he is in the United States, I cannot speculate on whether this is considered legal or illegal entry”Doug HaddenVP of Communications ICGFM
Now all we ask is if he is here – surely he should be arrested and if not his VISA must be publicly revoked.

he standard explanation offered by Africans opposed to gay rights is that homosexuality is alien to their culture and was introduced to Africa by European colonialists. A good deal of African-American homophobia relies on the same justification. But late 19th-century records on Africa and African oral history show that homosexual practices existed in pre-colonial Africa. One case in point are the Azande people in the north-east of modern-day Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where it was acceptable for kings, princes and soldiers to take young male lovers.
Further evidence for the existence of homosexuality is that pre-colonial African ethnic groups ascribed tribal classifications to gay people. While some of these categorisations had negative associations, many had neutral connotations. Certain tribes in pre-colonial Burkina Faso and South Africa regarded lesbians as astrologers and traditional healers. A number of tribal groups in Cameroon and Gabon believed homosexuality had a medicinal effect. In pre-colonial Benin, homosexuality was viewed as a boyhood phase that males passed through and eventually grew out of. http://www.thestandard.co.zw/opinion/23909-african-myths-about-homosexuality.html

In other words- homophobia is a remnant of colonialism not homosexuality.

Reading the comments on here from the likes of ‘moralist’ and ‘Uwera’, I have to ask the question “if you feel this way, then what are you doing on a website such as this one?”
Yes, I know you’re probably one of those homophobic, wastes of space who scour the Internet to spread your disease on LGBT websites and columns.
Has it ever occurred to you that you are the sinner because of your beliefs, which are not supposed to be Christian by the way?
As usual, you all open your mouths before you know what you’re talking about, and invariably end up sticking your evil, homophobic feet in your mouths.

Thanks Janice for your support. Thanks Paula and Bridgette too! Usually we dont give voice to hate,,, on this site – there is indeed plenty of sites where the true sinners can go and sprout off. However I am happy that our moderator let the above two comments through – pure hate- because it shows what is out there in the world and the how hate and scapegoating creates the real monsters in this world. When researching for this article, I looked at UGANDAN press and found that they were citing LezGetReal as their source – three different Papers had written stories about THE GAYS are Petitioning CLINTON to Ban BAHATI. I think that is what brought the above two villains to our site. I welcome the truth – the truth that there are people w ho hate – I do not welcome what they say. But it sure shows the world what we are up against. They serve to proove the case and also serve to show the impact of christian evangelicals in AFRICA .
What I find really interesting is the fact that they rely on their AFRICAN CULTURE as an excuse for their dicta, but really couch it in the fundamentalist Evangelical Terms…. what a shame!!!

I agree Mel, and you will always have my support..
Usually I would say don’t give these hatemongerers any platform at all, but sometimes you have to broadcast what they’re saying so that all can see the evil that’s really out there. It takes this sort of thing to show those who don’t know what’s going on exactly what we’re up against.

Actually,
Homosexuality is part of the rich African tradition if you go back before the arrival of the Christians and Muslims who did their best to obliterate all traces of it from the culture and history. Bahati is the true sinner and the truly evil person here as you are trying to hurt people whose only ‘crime’ is being how the Maker made them.

Leave David Bahati alone. He is anti immorality.

No, he’s pro-murder. He is not attacking immorality. If he was anti-immorality, why is he leading a campaign to distract the Ugandan people from the horrors of the land destruction that will be happening soon as a foreign oil company destroys Uganda’s lands for profit by attacking people whose only ‘crime’ is being how the Maker made them.
