Melanie Nathan – Dec 14, 2010 -It would seem that yours truly of LezGetReal may be the accused catalyst of a merging international furor; now why would we want to do that with Uganda? It seems that Mr. David Bahati has his you know whats in a knot about our breaking report that he had been “booted” out of the USA.
The Ugandan Monitor, has been picking up our articles and recently posted the one about Bahati being booted out of the USA. This clearly angered Bahati by his reaction in the Ugandan Monitor. Mr. Bahati fails however to place his response in context and so I will set the record straight.
“Kampala — Ndorwa West MP David Bahati has denied that he was ordered out of the United States by the State Department where he had gone to attend a conference on financial management but was denied entry because of his Anti-homosexuality Bill.
Mr Bahati dismissed reports of his deportation from the US as false and said it was a fabrication by those against his Bill that has drawn worldwide criticism. Press reports indicate that the legislator was put on a plane at Dallas Airport (misspelled by Ugandan Press should have been Dulles in D.C. ) in the US, through Paris and back to Uganda on the orders of the State Department. But Mr Bahati said: “It’s a mere fabrication by those who want to spoil the relations between two friendly countries. I came through Amsterdam not Paris like they are saying.”
Mr Andy Laney from the State Department also said they did not ask Mr Bahati to leave. “We did not ask David Bahati to leave the country,” in a statement on Lez get Real (Should be spelled LezGetReal) website on Saturday. Mr Bahati obtained a single event visa to the US to attend the conference but told he was not welcome due to his Bill.” Also picked up by Queerty Blog.
When Bahati first entered the country, I spoke to the State Department, sent them my article and an e-mail. I also contacted DHS and was relentless in pushing my belief that David Bahati, the author of the Anti-Homosexual (Kill-Gays) Bill was here in the USA and possibly under false pretenses.
I told them that I believed that Bahati was in violation of his VISA. He had been granted a Visa to enter the USA based on a single event – a Conference- that he knew would deny him entrance. In my prior articles and according to (site of ) College Prof. Warren Throckmorton,(see footnote 1.) you will see that when Bahati was informed he would be denied entry by Conference organizers, he commented and then boarded a plane and came anyway. ( quotes Uganda Press Footnote 2.) Effectively that means Bahati lied when he entered the USA. He presented a VISA at the counter of Immigration and Customs officials, which said he was going to a Conference while he knew he had been barred from the conference.
He showed up a day later for registration knowing he was excluded, knowing he had not paid the registration fee ; and If he dare allege that he did not know about the fact that he was going to be barred from the conference in advance of the flight, then when he pretended to attempt registration – why did he not turn back and head to the airport?
The Conference organizers went on the record and provided LGR with a letter confirming his ban from the Conference. While Bahati may have pretended not to know this, it is highly doubtful because it was already in the Ugandan press before he came to the USA and quoted by Prof. Throckmorton. Bahati showed up a day late to the Conference on the Tuesday – to register- and admits the doors were closed on him.
That was on Tuesday – that is when he should have left but he did not. Instead he did exactly what we had predicted in earlier articles. His real connived intent; he had come to the USA intending to visit his evangelical friends, evidenced by the fact that Jack and Linda Klenk , members of the Truro Church were his hosts; he stayed in their Fairfax County, VA home. He went on the Rachel Maddow show where he admitted that ‘The Kill the Gay Bill,’ pending parliament in Uganda was indeed the work of the infamous “C” street Fellowship Group.
Again I pushed with articles and links and e-mails – insisting that Bahati was here illegally; he can deny whatever -in the Ugandan press (picked up by Queerty) he is circumventing the real issue of his illegal entry into the USA. He may pretend not realize this – but when a person gets a VISA to the USA , the Visa is invalid if the purpose of the VISA is different to the intent of its holder when entering the Country. I dont see Bahati addressing the real issue at hand.
While Bahati asserts in the above article that LGBT activists via my report could harm USA and Uganda relations is ludicrous. USA and Uganda are friends; yet he so flagrantly breached our immigration laws -by entering the country on the phony VISA ; he is the one who entered the USA in bad faith. (no pun intended ,of course.) He is the one who thereby caused his own embarrassment in the Country.
The inside story of how BAHATI left the USA.
Gay activists had planned to protest outside the Klenk home early Friday morning; Bahati had been at MSNBC’s D.C. studio on Weds afternoon and recorded two shows, for Weds night and Thursday night. After Maddow show – as the noise from blogging and sending e-mails and organizing of protests got louder, the authorities gave Bahati a nudge. I have not reported that Bahati was deported as alleged in his article. Bahati was quietly, behind the scenes informed that he was unwelcome – that his visa was suspect and that ICE would be forced to visit the issue. (nudge, nudge, boot, go now..) My information is well sourced.
So Andy Lany is absolutely correct when he says that they did not ask Bahati to leave – as in “Get OUT Bahati,” but rather he received a hint and to avoid embarrassment acted upon it. It is true the State department spoke to Bahati as confirmed by Throckmorton as follows: “However, Mr. Laney confirmed that State Department officials met with Mr. Bahati while he was in the United States and told him
…that the Anti-Homosexuality Bill is a major violation of human rights and that we strongly oppose it.” (also not mentioned by Bahati in Ugandan Press.)
He left hurriedly after mall shopping and did not return to the Klenks home as activist were aware of his plans to do so. He boarded a plane for Paris and may have had to come via Amsterdam. Sources have not confirmed whether Bahati was denied entry into France or if he was merely catching a connecting flight.
If I could talk to to Mr. Bahati, as I have attempted to do, I would inform him that his actions alone will bring down the relationship of the USA and Uganda especially if he proceeds with the Bill that defies The International Declaration of Human Rights. I believe Bahati is trying to discredit me because I have exposed the ultimate ramifications of what the Anti-homosexuality Bill will really do – as I said before the US may well have to close its Embassy and all US Corps. withdraw in a climate where merely having gay employees could be a crime.
So it seems Bahati does not need my help in destroying Uganda and US relations.
Footnote 1. From Prof. Throckmorton’s article:
Interesting claim that Bahati’s visa is specifically for the event he now cannot attend. What happens when he is unable to enter? Bahati commented on the situation:
“I know US as a defender of democracy in the world and can differentiate between the efforts of a legislator in a democratic parliament from acts of dictatorship,” he [Bahati] said. Unlike other MPs, the American mission in Kampala gave him a single-entry visa specifically for the event.
Mr Bahati and five other MPs are scheduled to attend a financial management conference of practitioners in the US starting tomorrow. The gays also want to demonstrate at the venue of the meeting to show their distaste of the Bill and Mr Bahati. But Mr Bahati said he would continue with his trip. If one bomber had destroyed the Reightstag in about 1935 when it was in session, WWII would most likely not have happened.
And if the USA dropped one smart bomb on the Ugandan parliment, that would be a start re stopping the religious madness there, and here in the USA.
Trust me – how did the Republicans turn such a victory as Obama had into defeat in 2 years. it ws with the aid of the crazy anything but christians, and the catholic church of the molestation and the RATZInger pope.
The catholic church is all but dead in Europe, gay marriage is flourishing in Latin America, and the chuch of the molestation is dying even in the USA.
And it has combined witht he crazy christians in a new hate campaign. For their worst nightmare of these southern bible belt christians has come true – the election of a black president, and gay marriage or civil unions coming to America. And these creeps know that if America goes to giving gay people equality, virtually all of the western world will follow – the part that hasn’t yet.
Then there was 9/11 – remember how when Bush was told about 9/11 while in a classroom in FL, he didn’t show any emotion or surprise? Apparently he didn’t even ask “what was the weather like” despite he was a jet pilot in the draft dodging air national guard.
Its quite possible that 9/11 was an inside job. the religious people know that their power and money are ending. They actually believe their own craziness, and will stop at nothing, repeat nothing to maintain control, for they are control freaks supreme. And remember that despite the name brand of the religion, when they have a common enemy, all other issues are put aside. that includes the islamic crazies who are their own bible thumpers just as the christians also believe in a book of lies and ignornance and superstition from the dawn of recorded history.
America and the world stand at the edge of the precipice. Where we will either replace religious power and money with a simple statement about helping those less fortunate then ourselves, or otherwise end up in a theocracy just like Saudi Arabia or Iran.
And then, having consolidated power at the expense of what could be world civilizations destructgion and a new dark ages, they will begin to fight and murder each other over the spoils. Just like the sunnis and shities.
Do something. The Jews in germany didn’t know what was coming until it was too late. The religious nutcases have cloned a new hitlerite scene. And btw, hitler – the worst murderer in history has yet to be EXcommunciated by his church.
While the RATZInger pope in 2009 UNexcommunciated a Bishop Williamson who is a holocaust denier.
Need I say more? Its all about money, power, and control – the roots of all evil.

What I can’t figure out is why visiting his cronies would not have been a valid reason for a visa. Why the deception? Last time I was traveling internationally, visiting friends/family was a valid reason. Then again I’m a US citizen, not a Ugandan politician.

This is another great take on the Maddow appearance from Uganda http://gayugandanteen.blogspot.com/2010/12/david-bahate.html
i like this line: “talk about washing our dirty laundry in public. Oh the horror!”
It says that extracts have been playing on Ugandan radio, which doesn’t surprise me. Having lived in a small country, ANY attention from the US tends to get big play even when from a US (or UK) perspective it seems minor.

GUG say on the Gay Uganda blog that he was coming to fundraise. See http://gayuganda.blogspot.com/2010/12/bahatis-trip-to-us.html
The subject of money is essential to understanding what’s going on in Uganda, alongside politics. Pastors use claims of homosexuality against each other and in order to get largely American money. Politicians use homosexuality as a wedge and a distraction in order to get and retain power, and hence money.
Homosexuality was not an issue in Uganda until *Americans introduced it*. There is a similar process going on elsewhere, in Congo and Kenya. Largely American funded religious and then political use of homosexuality for power and politics … and money.

Your work on this has been tireless, and is much appreciated. You helped hound this muderous monster out of this country, and for that you should be very proud. He feels less welcome here because of the diligent reporting you have done — we all owe you a debt of gratitude. As was said previously, keep up the good work!
