So, 15 years ago, a young Winona Ryder takes her gay buddy and goes to a Hollywood party. At the party, they meet Mel Gibson. Ryder is finally opening up in a GQ interview as to what took place when she met the lovely Mel.

“I remember, like, 15 years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties, and [Mel Gibson] was really drunk. I was with my friend, who’s gay. [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke. And somehow it came up that I was Jewish.

He said something about ‘oven dodgers,’ but I didn’t get it. I’d never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment. I was like, ‘He’s anti-Semitic and he’s homophobic.’ No one believed me!” [Source]

Why didn’t anyone believe her?! Dodai at Jezebel thinks it’s because Gibson was at the height of his popularity at that time. He’s always been popular though. Maybe people in Hollywood just covered for him for as long as possible before he, you know, drove drunk and let the public know he was a douche. I like to think that not too many people care about his celebrity when it comes to being an anti-semitic, homophobic, misogynist. But based on the comments on the articles I have written about Gibson in the past, people just don’t care that he’s disgusting. Different stroke for different folks!
