Phyllis Schlafly Hates That Lesbians And Gays Want Respect

Phyllis Schlafly is the biggest contradiction of the push back against the Women’s Movement. She basically abandoned her family in order to campaign for a more traditional role for women and against everything that the Women’s Movement stood for. She was, for her day, Sarah Palin. These days, Schlafly is hunkering down to try and make sure that lesbians and gays are not treated well or respected. According to Daily RFT, Schlafly recently stated that the dialogue regarding marriage equality proves that an “aggressive well-funded pressure group can achieve goals contrary to what the majority of people want.”

Of course, she should know this quite well since she was part of the aggressive, well funded pressure group that rolled back many of the achievements of the Women’s Movement to the point that, today, the Women’s Movement is in near total disarray and needed more than ever.

She went on to say “I think same-sex marriage would be a terrible mistake. I don’t think there are any good arguments for it.”

Of course, when you close yourself off from any and all discussion of the evidence, there are no good arguments for anything. She once felt that there were no good arguments for women’s equality either. She also said: “Nobody’s stopping them from shacking up. The problem is they are trying to make us respect them, and that’s an interference with what we believe.”

Of course there are many things in this world that interfere with what she believes. It is called evidence. This is, of course, not about interfering with what she believes in, but rather interfering with her supposed right to force lesbians and gays to conform to her religious beliefs. Her arguments are along the same line as those which were once used to repress Blacks in this country.

Still, I cannot respect Schlafly for all the damage she has done, but that still does not mean that I’m trying to take away her Constitutional rights.

Addendum:

Schlafly spent her time trying to get respect for housewives and what they do.  For this, she basically abandoned her family.
