California has its New Governor – Welcome Home Jerry Brown
Posted by: Lez Get Real on January 3, 2011.
Melanie Nathan, Jan 03-2010. As a Californian today brings a big smile to my face and a lot of hope; the swearing in of Jerry Brown as California’s new Governor. Over the years this marks the new Gov’s third term. California loves Jerry and Jerry loves California. There are high hopes for this Governor on may levels, including his friendship toward the LGBT community and his sensible approach to equality.
I am hoping the new Governor will seriously contemplate encouraging the CA Assembly to seek and pass resolutions in support of Federal Civil Rights for GAYS … and Also Strong resolutions for repeal of DOMA. Last year they California legislature indeed passed Resolutions including that supporting the Uniting American Families Act – green cards for same sex couples.
While State resolutions do little more than merely pronounce upon Federal Law, they serve publicity, awareness and establish importance around specific issues.
Now its goodbye to the Governator – a most ineffective California Governor – and hello to the new…
I will miss Maria Shriver though…. she will probably continue to make her mark on society while hubby, Schwarzenegger tries to reinvent himself again.
