Sarah Palin has decided that the time was right to whitewash what could very well be her involvement in the assassination attempt on Representative Gabrielle Giffords. According to Maddow Blog, she has taken down the Take Back The 20 campaign piece which included a crosshairs over Giffords’ district, and listed her by name as being one of those that Palin wanted ‘taken out’. At the time, the image was controversial with some warning that this very event could happen.
Laura Conway at Maddow Blog wrote:
“As several commenters have noted, there’s no indication that the alleged shooter was politically motivated. Even if the perpetrator turns out to have been seriously involved in political causes, which again there’s no evidence of, his actions will likely remain senseless. What we can say is that today’s shooting, whatever its motivation, comes after an election season that was marked by the language of violence, like Sharron Angle’s call for Second Amendment remedies. And so today’s literal violence in a political context will inevitably raise questions about the effect of violent rhetoric.”
There are indications that the alleged gunman had Right Wing, and even Tea Party sympathies. Politico is reporting that a video supposedly created by gunman Jared Loughner talks about:
“You don’t have to accept the federalist laws,” the video above says; It also insists on the gold and silver standard, talks of revolution, and suggests that the government is imposing “mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar.”
Right now, Congressman Peter King (R-NY) is ramping up to hold hearings on Muslim extremists. Unfortunately, this could only intensify the already tinderbox dry situation that this nation is in. Beyond the normal warnings of what this could mean in the eyes of the Muslim world, for King to engage in what could become an attempt from the Right Wing to engage in a pogrom to remove Islam from this country is the height of irresponsibility. The fact that there are people like Loughner and before him Timothy McVey who listen to this rhetoric and decide to believe it and take to arms is something that this nation wishes to avoid.
The kinds of rhetoric that King, Palin, Angle, and so many more on the Right have engaged in over the last two years lead to this day. They will now try to hide from it. They will try to avoid it. They will try to go off and find someone else to blame.
The usual platitudes will come, of course. Those will include the fact that this man was some kind of insane person who was unstable to begin with, and yet, so were John Wilks Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald. All it takes is one insane person to do the unthinkable.
That Gabrielle Giffords survived is a miracle. Unfortunately, Judge Roll, a nine year old girl, and four more did not- including a member of Giffords’ staff. Tonight, the Federal government will be in mourning. “When one of our own is killed, it effects us all.” It was something said in the wake of the Oklahoma City Bombing.
The time has come for the rhetoric to stop. It is time for King to stop his witch hunt. It is time for McConnell and Beohner to call for an end to the rantings of Glenn Beck, and for them to call for Rush Limbaugh to moderate his tone. It is time for the Right to wake up and realize just what they have created.
Before the next bullet is fired.

Boo you are not seriously that short sighted are you. There is a milieu created by SArah Pali n and her spawned gang – taken to airwaves, internet facebook twitter and her site and she has erased what many of us were clever enough to capture before she could – why did we save this stuff – because it was so obvious that her rhetoric and bulls eye drawings and use of words such as TARGET and SOLUTION etc, would in fact impact those on the fringe – so read this please and then lets hear back from you http://lezgetreal.com/2011/01/congresswoman-gifford-shot-palin-angle-tea-baggers-accesories-before-the-fact/

I can not believe the ignorance that is being spewed regarding this horrible shooting. This young man did not commit this atrocity because of Sarah Palins website, Fox news or any host on talk radio. Milions listen to fox news and talk radio and they do not go out and kill elected officials or citizens. This young man was not left or right he was sick and confused and should have gotten help.
Why do the democrats blame the republicans when a shooting or assisign happens to a democrat? When republican elected officials have been threated or shot , ( Pres Regan ) to name a few .. not once did the right wing blame the left wing for the atraocity because they realized it had nothing to do with the crime. Really people you need to stop this. It does not solve the problem of young men who are becoming more and more violent for what ever reason . Read this and you will see its a inational crisis : http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266371,00.html

“Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has now done her part to raise the rhetorical intensity, telling her Twitter followers, “Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: ‘Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!’”
“ You know, our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. And in fact Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years.
I hope that’s not where we’re going, but, you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? I’ll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.”
“If our money were backed by gold and silver, people couldn’t just sit in some fancy building and push a button to create new money. They would have to engage in honest trade with another party that already has some gold in their possession. Alternatively, they would have to risk their lives and assets to find a suitable spot to build a gold mine, then get dirty and sweaty and actually dig up the gold. Not something I can imagine our “money elves” at the Fed getting down to whenever they feel like playing God with the economy.”
Jackie Boo,
There is your answer. Don’t trust Fox News. that last one is a direct quote from Rep. Ron Paul. Sound familiar? If not, try reading over what Loughtner said next time.
I just put this into a slightly more coherent manner in this article http://lezgetreal.com/2011/01/sarah-palin-tea-party-right-wing-trying-to-run-from-rhetoric-az-shooting/

Picking and choosing to make your point makes you less credible or likable for that matter. You should watch his videos and see for yourself that he was more of your common, “take down the government” political leaner than an anti-federal tea party member. He claimed that he should have had access to free public education and was a believer in ‘conscience dreaming.’ I bet you also have never listen to those people you claim promote violence, while I am not a frequent listener it is a good way to get an understanding of the right wing and I can tell you I haven’t once heard them use violent rhetoric, if you have you should have included sources for this in the article. I understand this is an opinion piece but in the era of cite source internet its best to back up your claims with facts rather than generalize because of your own political beliefs.

Paul,
I am not generalizing. You might want to check the stuff coming out of Ron Paul lately. I believe he has advocated the return to the gold standard. You seem to forget Sharron Angle and her “Second Amendment Remedies” comments, and Sarah Palin’s “Don’t retreat, reload” comment.
And this is not an opinion piece, this is reporting.
