Tucson Hero Hernandez To Attend State of the Union Speech

01/24/11-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Daniel Hernandez Jr. and his father, Daniel Hernandez Sr. will both be attending the State of the Union address tomorrow, and will be sitting next to Michelle Obama. Tomorrow is also Hernandez Jr.’s 21st birthday. Hernandez, who is openly gay, is also considered to be one of the heroes of the Tucson attack. During the assassination attempt by Jared Loughner, who has pled not guilty to the charges against him, Hernandez ran to Representative Gabrielle Giffords and held her to him trying to staunch the bleeding and preventing her from choking on her own blood. He was an intern for her.

He stated, as quoted by Polson Kanneth:

“I’m both honored and excited to have the opportunity to travel to our nation’s Capitol for a once in a lifetime event. Also the chance to bring my father along for his first trip to Washington, D.C. The State of the Union is a pivotal moment because it is our opportunity to find where we are and where we will be going as a nation in this upcoming year.”
