“I never saw one of our members or other Exodus leaders or other Exodus members become heterosexual, so deep down I knew that it wasn’t true.” Exodus International co-founder Michael Bussee said that in April 2010 about the people who he helped found EI. Bussee and fellow EI co-founder Gary Cooper left the organization in 1979, divorced their wives and had a religious marriage ceremony in 1981. The two were together until Cooper died of AIDS related causes in 1991.
Bussee has been a long time critic of EI and reparative therapy. In this emotional video, Bussee takes EI to task for becoming a political entity, and even helping those in Uganda push for a genocidal law aimed at the LGBT Community.
For the record, reparative therapy has a horrible track record, and is often more damaging than helpful. “Toxic secrets will either implode, destroying the secret keeper, or explode in violence against an innocent. There is another way. Acceptance. It seems like an easy call.”- Jane Velez-Mitchell, Addict Nation.
