TBS Sitcom “Are We There Yet?” Tackles Gay Storyline

The TBS sitcom, “Are We There Yet?” is a spin off of the movie by the same name. Ice Cube played the father in the movie and now executive produces the TV show that features an African-American family. They recently tackled the issue of a semi-closeted gay football player. The football player was kind of leading on the daughter, who didn’t know he was gay. This prompted her concerned father to talk to the boy about coming out to his daughter. The father didn’t judge the boy, just warned him that not coming out would hurt his daughter which led the boy to come out to the daughter.

The episode was sweet and non-judgemental. GLAAD describes it as  ”It is the most gay-affirming black gay exposition I have seen in memory.” [Source] It’s also just a funny, family friendly show.
