It is actually a rather fair question given the fact that Michele Bachmann is perceived in this manner and often portrays herself in that particular way, but it should not be surprising that Chris Wallace of FOX News would apologize for asking Representative Bachmann if she is a ‘flake’. She, like Sarah Palin, portrays herself as somewhat of a ditz and a flake. She says things that are almost calculated to make her sound insane.
Bachmann, who is very staunchly Conservative, is anti-gay, anti-woman (while enjoying all the benefits of the Women’s Rights movement), and pretty much anti anything liberal even if it means sounding like she is a dithering idiot.
The question caught the ire of many FOX viewers and even Greta Van Susteren who asked “Is this how Chris Wallace would ask the same question of a man?”
Wallace apologized Sunday saying:
“A lot of you were more than perturbed, you were upset and felt that I had been rude to her,” he said. “And since in the end it’s really all about the answers, and not about the questions, I messed up, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean any disrespect.”
The apology was not accepted.
The thing is, Bachmann does a good job of portraying herself as a flake. If he had asked this question of someone other than Bachmann, who sounds like she is several bricks short of a wall most of the time, it would be insulting. Say, if he had asked this of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas, who sounds reasonable all the time, this would be insulting. To ask this of someone who is being labeled a flake and a moron because of the act that she puts on for the public is not insulting.
The insult is that Bachmann has to resort to the kind of ditzy act in order to get attention for her political ambitions.
