EQCA To Honor Adam Lambert

7 July 2011
by Bridgette P. LaVictoire

Adam Lambert is working on his second album, but that is not exactly what will have his fans all a twitter right now. Lambert will be receiving a Los Angeles Equality Award. He will be getting the award on 13 August in Beverly Hills “because his ‘work has been a catalyst for social change and LGBT equality.’” Equality California is the award organizer. Lambert is suppose to be recognized for his “courage and leadership in entertainment.”

Lambert has participated in the “It Gets Better” campaign, which is aimed at overcoming bullying, and he has also donated proceeds from his single “Aftermath” to the Trevor Project, which is aimed at suicide prevention for the LGBT youth. Lambert stated “I am so honored to be invited to and recognized by the Equality California event…It’s a pivotal time in the progress of equal rights and I’m very grateful to be the subject of such broad visibility. I strive to lead by example by making no apologies for or withholding my identity as a proud and comfortable gay man.”

Lambert is also to be featured on the 10 August episode of VH1′s Behind the Music in which fans will be able to see home video footage of the singer, as well as interviews with friends and family. Fans will also see some of the behind the scenes work on Lambert’s second album.

Gay, straight, bi, trance, man, woman… It doesn’t make any difference. Adam is an inspiration to everyone! Words and labels can’t bring him down. I’m so proud of you darling, keep on rocking the world!

Adam Lambert  deserves this and more, he  is honest and true to himself person with no hidden agenda. He is upfront and perfect example for new generation. I love him for that, his talent is what attracted me but I remained a fan for the person he is. What a beautiful soul.

I’m very proud to be a fan of Adams, and so glad he’s getting recognised in this way. Unfortunately he has taken a lot of abuse from some in the Gay community who don’t like his flamboyance and overt sexuality and feel it reflects badly on them.
What they don’t understand is that Adam is having a massively positive influence on straight people like myself who would otherwise never have thought of supporting gay rights, and the flamboyance does not bother us at all, and most of us have the sense to realise that not all gay people are alike anyway. He has also got a lot of straight female fans who are the Mothers and future Mothers of the next gay generation.

Well, Mags, I see him along the lines of Freddie Mercury or, as I mentioned last night, Adam Ant. He’s an ’80′s guy, which is just fine.

Bridgette, I’m a fan of both of those, and I know what you mean by him being an 80s guy, but I think he has taken his art further than most of the 80′s artists who were stuck in one Genre.
I remember the 80s as being a time when  you chose your ‘Tribe’ and stuck to it, either Metal, New Romantic, 2 Tone, Punk ect. Adam can sing any genre and do it convincingly. He is happy to include everyone. That to me means much more than a media manufactured tribe.
