NOM Leader Jennifer Roback Morse: “Anal Sex Is Icky”

Jennifer Roback Morse, an affiliate leader for the National Organization for Marriage, has laid out the three prime arguments that she has for why same-sex marriage is wrong. She recently, according to Good As You, wrote on her Facebook page a post defending Jerry Buell, the anti-gay teacher from Florida. The third point is one that bears the most interest here. According to Morse, the reason to deny lesbians and gays equality is “Anal sex is icky.”

Ok, now, yeah, I have the emotional maturity of a fourteen year old. That comes from not really maturing as a person when I hit puberty and never really grew up. I have to agree with her, anal sex is icky, but then again, I also find heterosexual sex in all forms to be icky. I guess that means that I should be advocating for the criminalization of heterosexual sex.

Buell, in his post on Facebook, talked about how he ‘almost threw up’ when he heard that New York had legalized same-sex marriage, and referred to it as a ‘cesspool’ and ‘sin’. [LezGetReal does defend his right to say what he said even though we disagree with it because it was done outside of the school and he can find out that, no, others don’t support his view any more.]

Morse’s other points are the usual run of “Kids need a mother and a father,” and “Men and women are not interchangeable.” Studies have shown that children need two parents, not necessarily a mother and a father. As for the second point, that needs a lot more explanation because, honestly, it does not make sense as a stand alone.

Morse, who runs the NOM propaganda machine the Ruth Institute, also stated “to everyone who agrees with these or similar sentiments, I strongly suggest you speak up while you still have the chance. Taking the opportunity to speak freely while it is still legal.” Since Buell was not sent to jail, and since it is still legal to say racist things, it seems unlikely that what Buell or Morse say will be illegal any time soon.

GAY noted, though:

So wait, does this mean that if their marriage work fails, NOM’s next effort will be to put sodomy laws back on the books? To govern everyone’s bedrooms? To get “icky” written into the constitution as an acceptable basis for denying rights? I mean seriously, what next? Because here we have a key NOM personality flat-out admitting that her work is guided, at its root, by personal detestation for certain people’s sex lives. Why should any of us (of any orientation) believe that NOM will stop at its key talking point, “People have a right to live as they choose, they don’t have the right to redefine marriage for all of us,” when the group’s spokespeople are going directly after people?

As I have pointed out in the past, I have no desire or interest in heterosexual sex. In fact, the idea of having a man’s penis or a strap on dildo for that matter inside of me makes me lip curl in disgust. It seems so, well, barbaric. It is icky and disgusting.

But I can’t ever recall demanding that heterosexual sex be banned.
