Megyn Kelly Defends Chaz Bono Against Keith Ablow’s Transphobia

By now it should be obvious that Dr. Keith Ablow is little more than a psychiatrist who is well out of his depth when it comes to a variety of issues relating to the LGBT Community. His specialization is in forensics, not LGBT psychology. He has gone on the offensive by being, well, offensive with regards to the decision by ABC to invite Chaz Bono to be on Dancing With The Stars because Ablow would rather that trans people return to the shadows rather than walking in the light where he can see them and know that he is wrong in his thinking.

This is a man who has called Bono a “very disordered person”, believed that a gender confusion would ensue because of a boy with pink toenails appears in a J. Crew ad, and that prisons normalize homosexuality.

Given the fact that Ablow’s claims got dismantled by, of all people, Megyn Kelly would, if FOX had any brains, indicate that Ablow is heading for the door, but that seems unlikely. As Alyssa at ThinkProgress noted about this:

But Ablow’s association with the network does mean we got to see his colleague Megyn Kelly, who periodically pops up to say something awesome about, say, the medieval state of maternity leave in the United States, absolutely dismantle Ablow’s claims that Bono’s participation in Dancing With the Stars will convince legions of American children that they’re not comfortable with the gender they were born into (and also that transitioning is like giving liposuction to an anorexic)

The appearance of Bono on DWTS may help the public profile of trans people. Of course, by and large, trans men tend to be treated just a few notches better than trans women since it is more comfortable for our society to deal with women who want to be male rather than men who want to be women. After all, most of the demeaning language we have in this culture tends to demean men and make them more feminine.

As a side note, up until today, I have let my colleagues here at LezGetReal deal with this issue. As a trans woman, I find myself stuck in a difficult situation as too many stories about these kinds of attacks tend to make me upset.
