Rick Santorum Calls Herman Cain’s Stance on Marriage ‘Sad’

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is still running around the country pretending like he is a serious contender for the nomination. This time, he has decided to continue his beat as a one-issue candidate by calling what Herman Cain said about same-sex marriage ‘sad’. Santorum may be running in hopes that, when he does bow out, his pet issue will get picked up by whomever he endorses. Of course, by now, he is such a laughing stock and seen as being so pathetically obsessed with gayness that he is not really going to get that.

Santorum was in Iowa backing the push to get rid of those Iowa judges who allowed same-sex marriage to enter into that state, and trying to push for the amendment that is not forthcoming. Santorum, of course, attacked Cain’s position that he would not seek an amendment banning same-sex marriage. That is a national amendment.

Santorum stated
“The idea that this is issue should be left to the states is the position Barack Obama takes and it’s not the right position. There needs to be a uniform definition of marriage in this country.”

Santorum apparently believes that the issue of same-sex marriage is a make-or-break one for conservatives without noticing that, while it may win you the nomination, it will doom you in the general election. Santorum stated that “Leaders should be out there advocating for what is in the best interest of our society and what’s in the best interest of mothers and fathers and children and I’m going to do that. I have done it and I have done it here in Iowa and I don’t know of anybody else in this campaign, including Herman Cain, who has made that kind of blanket commitment to the institution of marriage and the stability of the family.”

Actually what is best for parents and for society is that people can make a living wage without having to work 60 or more hours a week, have healthcare, jobs, and security. Marriage equality has been shown not to have any effect on society. Santorum will be in Las Vegas for the upcoming nationally-televised debate on Tuesday despite the fact that several candidates who are boycotting it over the decision of Nevada to move their caucuses up into January.

Maybe he should try, well, proposing an end to these long campaign seasons. That might actually gain him some popularity.

Rick Santorum may be on to something. Maybe marriage equality is indeed a threat to families. Despite the fact that I have been unwaveringly (some might even say pathologically) heterosexual all my life, ever since my home state of New York passed its marriage equality law, I have had an unshakeable urge to run away from my wonderful wife of nine years and my two beautiful daughters, move back to the city, find me a boy-toy and play house. :-)
