Rampant Squirrel Feeding Could Land Woman In Jail

Eastern Gray Squirrel

Annick Richardson loves to feed the squirrels. In fact, she loves to feed them so much that she goes out into other people’s yards to feed them peanuts. Richardson is now in deep trouble. What started out as a simple way to feed the squirrels something which they really should not be fed has led to ruined gardens, ruined air conditioners, ruined, and one family having to move due to a severe peanut allergy.

Don DuBon, a neighbor for Richardson, stated that “She won’t stop. She won’t listen to police. She won’t listen to the animal control officer.”

Richardson has defended herself saying “It’s very dishonest to make me the villain or make me look like the monster.” However, Richardson does note that she understands that there is a problem here. She stated that “It is excessive that is true. I’m am trying to refrain myself.”

Richardson is now facing two counts of criminal trespassing for going onto other people’s properties in order to give the squirrels peanuts, and according to Kettering Municipal Court, she could serve up to sixty days in jail for her attempts to feed Charlie Brown and Linus Van Pelt to the squirrels….sorry, bad joke.

Richardson has said that she feels bad about the situation and relocated one of her feeders. She stated that “It’s the parents or guardians responsibility to make sure the child is not going to pick up anything and it’s my responsibility not to put any on her side.”

Some of the neighbors feel that the charges are overblown, and most neighbors have no problem if she just fed the squirrels in her yard. She has also stated “What I will do is reduce dramatically in the springtime and feed them mainly on my property but I will have a few exceptions.”

There will be a pre-trial hearing in December, and she has been appointed a public defender.
