Wisconsin’s Recall Law Bent By Walker Supporter

Scott Walker by Donkey Hotey, Creative Commons, Flickr

This story is just breaking on The Ed Show, with John Nichols of The Nation.

A supporter of Scott Walker has filed a recall petition for Walker ahead of the Democrats’ recall petition. The purpose is to take advantage of a Wisconsin law that allows the object of a recall to collect unlimited amounts of campaign contributions for an unlimited number and type of sources. Walker is on his way to a Koch brothers’ sponsored event this weekend, and with the filing of this petition, Walker can walk away from the Kochs and their friends with millions in funding to fight the real recall.

It will be days, if not weeks before the Wisconsin Secretary of State’s office certifies this recall petition, but the petition does not have to be certified for the funding law to go into effect.

This one totally blindsided the Democrats. Who in his or her right mind would ever consider the Republicans capable of filing a recall petition on their own governor?
