The firing of Natalie Johnson has gone kind of viral and started getting a lot of notice. What did she do that got her fired? Well, that depends on whether or not you ask the right people. Ask the wrong people and they will claim that she prevented a man from using the women’s dressing room. Ask the teenage girl she harassed, and you learn that she prevented a young woman from entering the women’s dressing room. So, of course, those who have no clue about the biological origins of transsexuality tend to claim that she was right in her actions while her employers have said that she was absolutely wrong, knowingly violated the policies of the company, and harassed a customer.
So, of course, the hate-affiliate group One Million Moms wants Macy’s to apologize for, well, doing what was right.
One Million Moms Director Monica Cole sent out an email saying:
According to Liberty Counsel, Natalie Johnson says she saw the young man walk out of the women’s fitting room and politely told him that he could not go back in because it was for women only. The cross-dressing young man claimed that he is a “female.” Johnson said that he was wearing make-up and girl’s clothing, but clearly he was a male. The cross-dresser was accompanied by five other individuals.
Ahem…yes. That person sounds female, and the manishly dressed and looking Johnson made a decision to bar this young woman from the women’s dressing room. Johnson recently gave an interview in which she wore pants, a rather masculine shirt, and had her hair slicked back. It took some verification to find out that she was not, in fact, the teen girl that she harassed.
Cole also wrote:
The group argued with expletives that Macy’s is LGBT-friendly, to which Johnson replied that Macy’s is also non-discriminatory toward religion, and that it would go against her religious beliefs to lie that he was a woman or compromise with homosexuality. The group then demanded to speak with a manager.
The policy about non-discrimination of religion discusses harassment based upon religion. In other words, you can be hired no matter what your religion is, but if you start pushing your religion on others, they can complain and you can be disciplined. This also means that you cannot evangelize when it comes to customers. This amounts to religious harassment. In other words, religious non-discrimination does not cover being allowed to harass others with your religion. As for the use of expletives. . .after being harassed for a long time, yeah, you tend to use explatives.

@WestCoaster Just a minor nit pick to your post, it should be “Your company’s policy to allow transgender women….” not transgender men. Trans men should stick to the men’s fitting room. Other than that I love your post!

I am upset that your company has suffered this situation. I am a Post-Op trans woman and appreciate the stores that support me and people like me. We are not trying to hurt anyone and only wish to shop.
I feel grateful for the stores stand and sorry that it has turned into such an issue. I am over 64 years old and understand the issues at play. My spouse, children and family as well as neibours fully support me and I appreciate your standng by the Trans girl in this situation. I know friends who no longer acknowledge me for the same reasons this lady is promoting. I guess I am fortunate to have the support I do have and I am so grateful for stores like yours who also assist us. We may be ignored and put down by some of these people but I am christian and will one day get to ask my God why I was born in such a body.

Here is the altered version that I signed and sent to Macy’s. Feel free to copy and send under your own post.
Dear President Lundgren:
Just wanted to say thank-you.
Macy’s has done a great justice by firing Natalie Johnson, whose first priority is the welfare and safety of Macy’s customers and shouldn’t be narrow-minded religious bigotries.
Your company’s policy to allow transgender men to enter a woman’s dressing room is totally acceptable and causes me great relief to know that there are companies in this world who value and respect people.
I question the wisdom in putting this women in your stores.
I urge you to immediately apologize to that woman (and YES, she’s a she) who was harassed by Ms. Johnson and put safeguards in place to protect all your customers from people like Ms. Johnson who would harass them while they were trying to shop in your stores
