Beach Boys To Tour In Honor Of 50th Anniversary

The Beach Boys are going back out on tour. Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine have all announced that they will be getting back together in order to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They are also working on a new album and are planning a fifty-date world tour. According to Wilson “This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys, and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again.”

The group also includes Bruce Johnston and David Marks. The two have been with the band for decades. The band started with Love, Jardine, Wilson and Wilson’s two brothers Carl and Dennis. Carl Wilson passed away in 1998 from cancer. Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983.

The band is known for songs such as “Good Vibrations”, “I Get Around”, and, of course, “California Girls.” In one iconic moment from the world of comic strips, the character of Andy Lippincott passed away listening to “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” which was off of what is considered one of the best Beach Boys’ albums Pet Sounds.

CBS News noted that:

Wilson suffered mental problems that caused him to withdraw from the band, and there were years of animosity between Love and Wilson, who are cousins, as well as lawsuits among members of the band. Still, they have gotten back together over the years, including for their 40th anniversary in the last decade.

Still, Love and Wilson appear to be getting along well. Love stated that “Music has been the unifying and harmonizing fact of life in our family since childhood. It has been a huge blessing that we have been able to share with the world.” Referring to a Beach Boy hit, he added: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice to Do It Again? Absolutely!”

Jardine has indicated that the group will be at the 12 February Grammy’s in Los Angeles saying “There will be a surprise at the Grammys. We will do something really exciting. There’s a lot of interest in it, which is nice. It’s going to be a very big operation.”

The tour is suppose to start in August of next year.
