GOP Presidential hopeful and Texas Governor Rick Perry loves God. He takes the opportunity to tell us about how much he loves God and theocracy at every turn. Of course, this is starting to earn the ire of many in the religious community who are tired of politicians coopting their religion in order to pursue horrible policies and religious tyranny.
The Rainbow Sash Movement has issued this statement going after Perry’s theocratic tendencies:
The Rainbow Sash Movement is calling on GOP hopeful Presidential candidate Rick Perry to stop using God as if he were his personal campaign manager. His politics of division and homophobic scapegoating is not based on the Word of Jesus Christ.
In our opinion, he is insulting the intelligence of most reasonable and fair minded people in Iowa, and indeed around the nation when he promotes such narrow-mindedness. The promotion of Bigotry should have no place in our political discussions.
The silence on the part of his fellow GOP candidates is deafening. They are quickly being seen as the peanut gallery of intolerance. The culture of ethics is what most voters hunger for, not the same old, same old politics of division and greed.
Rick Perry needs to look at the closets in his own life before he engages in such homophobic vitriol. All of us are frail human beings in need of God’s saving grace a point that the Governor needs to be reminded of.
What is becoming increasing visible about the current GOP Presidential hopefuls is their ability to engage in the politics of animosity to promote their personal presidential aspirations. God is not about hate and bigotry rather God is centered in love.
We call on Perry to focus on the issues that are confronting our nation such as jobs, the economy, the scandal of poverty, and how best to build a national economy that is based on human dignity and not greed and privilege. It is time to speak the language of solutions not the language of diversion.

We are closing schools, laying people off. Families are being foreclosed on and being put out in the streets. And all the Republicans running for President can talk about is who is Gay. We need to start looking at what is best for the country. We are not in high school any more. Hello!!! It is a good way to raise money. I think the Republicans have a “gay agenda”, more than the gay community has. They have nothing to say, so they go for the gay!

Perry, Bachmann, and Santorum all suffer from Blue Brothers Syndrome — they all believe that they are on a mission from God.
Gingrich, on the other hand, uses religion as his personal “get out of jail free” card.
All that he needs to do is simply proclaim that God has absolved him of his sins, and the nation is supposed to forgive and forget all of his past transgressions, whether they be illegal, unethical, or immoral.
And because each of these POTUS wannabes is a “good Christian”, they self-righteously regard themselves as more trustworthy and better suited to national office than is someone who actually believes in the Constitutional tenet regarding separation of church and state.
