And so it launches. Today at midnight on the East Coast, Star Wars: The Old Republic launched. For some of us, including me, the game has been out for a while since those of us who preordered the game got early access. To date, I have yet to settle on a character or get one beyond, say, level 10. That is not bad, though, since it took me about a month to settle on a Rogue for my first serious character in World of Warcraft. A week is hardly enough time to end up with a full on decision on who to play.
So far, I am enjoying the Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, Jedi Consular and Republic Trooper.
There still appears to be no same-sex romance in the game. I have not been able to pin that down as of yet, though. So far, there has not been any confirmation on exactly when they plan on entering those into the game. Hopefully, it will be soon, but there is always the difficulty with the fact that this is a fully voiced game with unique character voices for each class, and at least three choices of dialogue for each of the various interactions.
Each of the character classes has their own unique storyline that they follow, along with side quests that anyone can do. Certain interactions will be different based upon gender and race. For instance, in the Empire, if you are a Sith or a Human, you are treated with a greater degree of deference than if you are, say, Twi’lek, Zabrak or one of the other races. There are flirtation interactions as well that can depend on the gender of your character as well. It would be nice to see flirtation options added for same-sex interactions down the road, but that is something that is, well, a very low priority compared to same-sex romance options with companions.
The game has had its issues. There have been problems with the early game access, but still…the game has begun…
So, grab your blasters and enjoy yourselves.
