Troy, Michigan Mayor Janice Daniels is having some major problems when it comes to her homophobia. At a recent City Council meeting, she faced a concerned parent who had one message for Daniels- “Choose love over everything”.
Daniels is under fire for writing on Facebook back on 25 June “I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there.” This comment resurfaced on 2 December and has not come to an end yet.
At the meeting were a lot of people who aired their concerns about Daniels, including two mothers- and their daughters.
According to one news report, Amy Weber and her wife Tina confronted Daniels. Weber stated “We came here tonight because we wanted Mayor Daniels to have a really good look at – and to meet for maybe the first time in her entire life – a gay family.” Weber presented Daniels two pictures which were drawn by her daughters Logan and Aiden. Each drawing included the word ‘love’ and Weber encouraged Daniels to attend an LGBT event.
Weber also stated “We talk every day about different families and different types of people and teaching respect and kindness. That is the heart that beats in our house — about being kind, about choosing love over everything.”
The audience apparently then erupted into applause.
For her part, Daniels stated after the public comments ended that “I’m so tired. I wish I could think of something really nice to say, but I can’t think of something that would be absolutely appropriate. I’m very, very moved by the whole experience, and I’m going to be making some considerations certainly in the future.”
