Believe it or not, there are two major concentration of French names and people of French descent in the United States. Odds on are, if you live in New England, and especially in Vermont, you will run into people with French last names like Bordeaux, Pichet, LaVictoire, Chevalier, and so many more. The other was in South Carolina, which happens to be where Stephen Colbert is from. This would be why there is a silent ‘t’ at the end of his name. It’s a French name. It is also why Rett Butler in Gone With The Wind had such a unique accent.
Well, now, the Colbert founded PAC Americans for a Better Tomorrow Tomorrow have released their first anti-Colbert ad featuring the voice of Hollywood bad ass Samuel L. Jackson. After all, we are talking about one of only two reasons why anyone would want to watch two out of the three Star Wars prequels. . .just to see Jackson slaughter things with a purple lightsaber.

Actually, Colbert is Irish. He changed it to a soft “T” when entering the entertainment business

Ah, thank you. The name Colbert did spread from France to the Isles thanks to the Normans. It’s still a French name, though. It’s kind of like my ancestor Abraham Martin di The Scotsman. Martin was a Frenchman, but his ancestors had moved there from Scotland at some point prior to him founding Quebec. Thank you for the correction
