Well here is a nice how-do-you-do. Apparently, Representative Devid Chavez has reintroduced his super-DOMA bill today after pulling it from consideration just before it was set to go before the House Consumer & Public Affairs Committee. With time ticking down to the end of the session, Chavez has decided to use Valentine’s Day as his day to pull this.
The HCPAC heard the bill at 8:30 AM
Somehow, it does not seem all that unlikely that a Republican would pull something like this in order to prevent scrutiny of the bill from happening.

Does anyone else remember back in the 80s when the battle cry from right wingers was “Equal Rights Yes, Special Privileges No!” when they were opposing bills to protect gays and lesbians from arbitrary discrimination in jobs and housing? Funny but they don’t dare use that motto today or else their hypocrisy would be exposed. They would have to support equal rights for gay citizens to marry.

According to our friends at Equality New Mexico, HJR22 got voted down in committee on this lovely St Valentine’s Day. Yay! I wish I could have seen the look on Rep. David Chavez and Rep. Nora Espinoza’s faces.
