Fetal Pain Abortion Bill Apparently Dead In Georgia

Georgia was one of those states that were busy pushing a ban on abortion passed twenty weeks on this notion of fetal pain. The science behind this bill is highly flawed, of course, but that is not stopping these people from pushing this law. The aim of the law was to make women incapable of getting an abortion after 20 weeks unless a woman’s life was in danger. Current law prohibits abortion beyond 24 weeks.

An amendment to the bill would have allowed women to have an abortion after 20 weeks if the woman learned that the fetus would not survive long outside the womb. The bill would have made Georgia the seventh state to ban abortions beyond 20 weeks. The bill was effectively killed this afternoon.

At about 6pm EST, it became apparent that the bill was dead.
