Why anyone would want to interview Kirk Cameron is beyond most of us given that the man has been known to be a bit on the weirdly scary. In fact, Cameron has been known to all but froth at the mouth over his religious beliefs, and he tends to annoy just about everyone around him who is not a fellow Evangelical.
Last night, on Piers Morgan, Cameron decided to attack homosexuality and same-sex marriage by saying “I think that it’s … unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
Of course, what one sees as unnatural depends on their cultural background. For instance, someone who sees the world as centering around homosexuality might see the world through homonormative eyes and find homosexuality as being unnatural.
Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD, though, told TMZ that “he feels Cameron, a Born Again Christian, is ‘out of step with a vast majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation.’”
Cameron has been lampooned and had a lot of difficulty with his career since he was on Growing Pains. The big part of the reason why Cameron has had trouble with his career has been the fact that he has pushed his religious beliefs on his costars.

Why can’t we speak in what we believe in? If we speak about sins we get blasted but if you want to talk about promoting sins it’s all good! Good job Kirk Cameron for being brave enough to stand up against sin!!!!

Marie,
What is ‘sin’? Oh, I am not talking about the actual list- which has changed considerably over the years- but define exactly what ‘sin’ is. If sin is in any part religious, then it has no place in the discourse about homosexuality.
What Cameron said was flat out wrong- and disprovably wrong. Homosexuality is not “unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.” On the ‘unnatural’ front, there are a long list of animals with proven records of homosexual coupling, some of which are lifetime pairings. On the ‘detrimental’ and ‘destructive’, this is Cameron showing his ethnocentrism as there have been many civilizations which have stretched for millennia where homosexuality was not only practiced, but embraced. In fact, forced breeding, the constant push to have children, and so forth that Christianity endorses is far more destructive to society and culture than homosexuality. In fact, given how destructive Christianity is to society, one has to wonder how banning that would go.
As for sin. . .I find much of what Christianity stands for and does quite sinful. Including acting like everyone else’s judge.

Who really cares what Kirk Cameron has to say about anything? He’s a complete has-been who sole career accomplishment has been playing an annoying teen on a ridiculous sitcom. I feel sorry for his six children, who will likely be cast into the fires of hell if they dare step out of line with Mr. Cameron’s belief system.

It is amazing how many people have conferred upon themselves a doctorate in psychology with a specialization in human sexuality. Mr. Cameron is a fraud, since he is not qualified to express a professional opinion on this topic.
The Bible speaks of “the God of Isaac, Abraham, and Jacob,” even though, through the inalterable divine institution of marriage, Jacob had two wives, each of whom he earned through seven years of labor.
