Santorum Would Be Willing To Be GOP’s Number Two

Rick Santorum in his favorite milieu (by Lockerz)

By now everyone has gotten tired of the Republican Primary as it drags on into its second century here. Currently, we have Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum as the frontrunners, and neither of them seem exactly heading towards a decisive victory. So, it is not surprising that Santorum, who is in a second place-ish spot told CBN reporter David Brody that he would be willing to be the number two on the ticket if Romney was number one.

Santorum said when asked about being the number two:

“Of course. I mean, look. I would do in this race as I always say, this is the most important race in our country’s history. I’m going to do everything I can. I’m doing everything I can. I’m out there. In the last 10 months, I’ve had five days off. Two for Thanksgiving, and three for Christmas. I’ve been working every single day. My wife and my kids, we’re just busting our tail, because we know their future and all of our childrens’ future is at stake in this election and I don’t want to be the guy who has to sit with my granddaughter, 20 years from now, and tell stories about an America where people once were free. I don’t want to have that conversation.”

Given that Santorum wants to impose Catholic based policies including banning same-sex marriage, abortion and contraception in this nation, one has to wonder if twenty years after a Santorum Presidency we all won’t be wondering where our freedoms went to.

Of course, Romney doesn’t really like Santorum, and as the Daily Kos pointed out, once stated:

“Well, that would preclude, of course, Rick Santorum. Because, I mean, look at his record. I find it interesting that he continues to describe himself as the real conservative. This is the guy who voted against right-to-work. This is the guy who voted to fund Planned Parenthood. This is the person who voted to raise the debt ceiling five times? [...] Rick Santorum is not a person who is an economic conservative to my right.”

Well, of course not. Romney is the Fiscal Conservative- kind of like, you know, Obama. Santorum is the Religious Conservative. Ron Paul is the Libertarian. All together, they are the branches of the Republican Party. That may not bode well in the long run given that none of these three can stand the other. Of course, putting Santorum on the ticket may be enough to drive almost everyone to the Democrats.
