Small story, not getting as much attention right now as the fired Secret Service agent who posted a photo of himself checking out Sarah Palin’s ass, is the submission to the Federal government of TransCanada’s alternate route for the Keystone Pipeline from the Athabasca Oil Sands fields.
When the President rejected the Keystone deal, it was because of concerns about the watershed in the center of the country. The Republicans went completely nutso over the rejection, accusing the President of personally killing tens of thousands, if not a hundred thousand new jobs. TransCanada, who will build and maintain the pipeline said “Okay, no biggie, we’ll change the route and get back to you.” The response from TransCanada never made it to Fox News or any of the right wing media, so the Republicans can continue to accuse the President of killing jobs.
So, TransCanada has filed the alternate route, and the President has approved the lower half of the pipeline already. Now, they will run the new northern half up the flagpole for the state agencies and environmental groups and see who salutes. The pipeline was always going to be built. It was just a matter of where.
