Pride season is upon us! Michigan Equality has sent us their press release regarding their upcoming Pride events, which are scheduled to begin next weekend in Detroit. So, for our Michigan readers, here it is:
Michigan’s largest gay, lesbian and transgender festival is just a week away! It will be held June 2 & 3, 2012 in Hart Plaza on the Detroit riverfront. The Plaza will serve as the center point for our community to come together, celebrate our diversity, and work for equality for all Michigan citizens.
The festival is from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 and Noon to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2012. Visit www.motorcitypride.org to view festival information and a complete schedule of events.
Motor City Pride Parade on Sunday June 3, at 11:00 a.m. It will step off at Fort Street and proceed down Griswold to Hart Plaza. This year’s parade size is already bigger than last year’s and more groups are joining each day.
In addition to the parade we have an amazing list of entertainment for the weekend. Motor City Pride is excited to showcase acts such as Dave Aude, Barbara Payton, Kelsey B, Julissa Veloz, Dani Rice, Josey Greenwell, Kerli, Kimberly Cole, Nini Sky, Hypercrush, a Big Freedia dance tutorial, and a host of other great national and local acts that will perform on our four Motor City Pride Stages.
Hart Plaza also allows us to expand the Family Picnic and the Family Area. The Picnic will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 from noon to 2:00 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a picnic lunch and we will provide treats and games. The Family Area will be held during the festival and will include face painting, puppet shows, arts and crafts and a visit by Dr. Dinosaur.
*Motor City Pride is a project of Equality Michigan and wishes to thank our sponsors that help make the event possible.
