Six people were injured on the USS Miami after a fire broke out on board the nuclear-powered submarine. It was in dry dock undergoing maintenance when the blaze occurred. So far, authorities have not stated how the fire started. Fire services from Portsmouth, Maine were called in to deal with the fire which broke out in the forward compartment of the Los Angeles-class vessel. This area houses living quarters and command and control spaces. The fast attack sub is capable of carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles and Mark 48 torpedoes; however, all ordinance was off the ship at the time.
The fire blazed through most of the night, only being extinguished this morning.
