13 Illegal Voters May Have Decided 2008 Election

Gov. Rick Scott

The explanation for the passage of photo ID laws for voting is that there was rampant voter fraud in our last few elections, particularly in the 2008 election when the only reason the right wing can come up with for President Obama’s election is that he must have received millions of illegal votes. Though the voter registration roll purge in Florida is illegal and has been ordered to cease and desist by the Justice Department, we really owe Rick Scott a vote of thanks for his effort.

There are approximately 14.5 million voting age Floridians. For various reasons, 2.5 million of Florida’s adults cannot vote. Of the 12 million registered voters, 13 have been found on the voter registration rolls to be non-citizens, and four of them actually voted, one in each presidential election since 1996. Thirteen cases of illegal voter registration out of 12 million voters. That’s 0.000001% of Florida’s registered voters should not be on the rolls, according to the first round of voter registration purges in 67 counties. A remaining 1,000 Floridians whose registration has been challenged have not yet responded, scrambling around trying to acquire birth certificates and other documentation to defend their right to vote. If all 1,000 were found not to be legally eligible to vote, the percentage would rise to a whopping 0.000084% of Floridians who were potential illegal voters. In 2008, 8,144,225 Floridians voted in the Presidential election. One of them voted illegally. That is 0.0000001% of Florida’s votes were illegally cast.

Scary number isn’t it? Let’s extrapolate it to nationwide, shall we? The right wing claims that every illegal immigrant in America, all 11 million of them voted for Barack Obama. In 2008, 132,618,580 Americans voted. If the right wing were correct, those illegals would have represented 8% of the votes cast. But Florida has just unearthed a single illegal voter in 2008. If Florida is correct, and only 0.0000001% of those votes were illegal, that’s 13 illegal votes nationwide. That’s a one and a three and no zeros.

THIRTEEN ILLEGAL VOTES! OMG, IT’S A TIDAL WAVE OF ILLEGALS! IT’S A NATIONAL CRISIS! MAN THE BARRICADES! DEFEND OUR POLLING PLACES! FIND THOSE 13 AND PROSECUTE THEM! OVERTURN THE ELECTION – IT WAS A FRAUD! BARACK OBAMA REALLY ISN’T OUR PRESIDENT!

Rick Scott may prove to be the worst thing that ever happened to the Republican propaganda machine. First he proved that welfare recipients use drugs at half the rate of the general population, and now he’s proven that voter fraud and voter registration fraud are not even a statistical blip in our vote totals. Scott has proven that the whole hysteria over illegal voters was just a sham to provide the Republican Party with another way to block Democrats from participation in our Constitutional process.

The 67 county clerks in Florida have chosen to obey the Justice Department’s cease and desist order and stop wasting taxpayer money on this ridiculous purging of the voter registration rolls. Scott has said he will continue and not even the Justice Department can tell him to stop doing something that Federal law expressly forbids in the middle of election season. It would almost be worth it to let Scott finish his purge, to get the final number of illegal voters in the fourth most populated state in the union. Then, we could go to court and overturn all those photo ID laws that were passed on hysteria instead of facts, written to eliminate low-income voters, part of the Republican Party’s agenda of turning America into Fascist Italy circa 1935.

The sad part is, none of those Republican legislators who bought into this idea of massive voter fraud will be the least embarrassed to have been taken for drooling idiots by the powers controlling their party, and no right wing media personality will admit what has happened in Florida. Oh, they will scream about the Holder Justice Department covering up the truth, they will weep over interference with the righteous removal of illegals from the registration rolls, but they will never, ever tell their faithful listeners and viewers what really happened in Florida.
