Democrat Barber Wins Special Election For Giffords’ Seat

From 2007 until 2012, Ron Barber worked for Gabrielle Giffords. He was by her side when Jared Lee Loughner attempted to take her life. Today, Barber won the race to succeed his former boss. Barber won 52% to 45%. Barber defeated Iraq War veteran Jesse Kelly in a race that the Republicans tried to frame as a referendum on President Barack Obama.

Barber was shot in the thigh and face in the attack that nearly took Giffords’ life.
