Genius for the Day: Genndy Tartakovsky

Genndy Tartakovsky

Its a strange name when you see it flash across your tv screen, but Genndy Tartakovsky is the creator of some of the best, most intriguing and genuinely funny animated adventure series on television in the last 20 years, while also being involved in producing, directing, writing, etc. Still don’t recognize the name? Maybe you’ll recognize his work.

Genndy Tartakovsky was born and raised in Moscow, USSR. He and his family moved to Chicago, IL when he was 7 years old, after his father defected to the US. His interest in comic books and animation led him to study animation at Cal Arts in Los Angeles. While he was there he produced two student films, one of which was the basis of his series “Dexter’s Lab”.  The character of DeeDee was inspired by his older brother Alex, who would often spoil younger brother Genndy’s plans (as DeeDee does to Dexter).

Dexter's Laboratory

2 Stupid Dogs

Powerpuff Girls

The Critic

Samurai Jack

Sym-biotic Titan

Star Wars: Clone Wars

Hotel Transylvania

Tartakovsky also helped create such series as Dexter’s Laboratory, 2 Stupid Dogs, PowerPuff Girls, The Critic, Samuari Jack, Sym-Biotic Titan, Star Wars: Clone Wars and the upcoming Hotel Transylvania.

Wait, Genndy worked on The Critic? What did he do on The Critic? And just when I thought I couldn’t know more about him.
