Interview with New Gay Author, EMER

EMER June 2012

May 18th, 2012 we introduced you to young, gay author, EMER, and the collection of short stories he is working on. With the increasing popularity of his writings, we wanted to get in an interview before he becomes famous. We managed to track him down and chatted about his book. Today, we interviewed him on his collection and his work in progress.

THE INTERVIEW:

ME: I have no idea what to ask. Why don’t you tell me how the book is coming?

EMER: It’s going good. I’m starting story 6 of 18 today. Not sure what it is going to be about or what is going to happen. lol

ME: Wow. So what have you been working on since we last spoke to you?

EMER:I just finished Friends Forever last friday. I usually like to figure out the setting and characters first before I figure out where the story is going to go. Well, I finished the first story for the book a couple of months ago. It’s about a boy that looses his family in a house fire and gets lost in the woods. While lost in the woods he meets a strange woman and gets thrown into a wild fight for survival. In a second story that I finished for the book, Midnight Drive-In, a young couple goes on a date night at the local drive-in. After the power goes out, people start to disappear and the couple must figure out the mystery and try to survive.

ME: Sounds interesting.

EMER: All of the 18 stories for the book are set in the same small ocean side town. I have completed 6 of 18 so far.

ME: sounds ambitious. why 18 stories?

EMER: The 18th letter in the alphabet is R. My second book is going to have 20 stories for T, and third book will have 19 for S. Lol. That took a lot of thought..

ME: Does your head hurt?

EMER: All three books next to each other will spell out my initials.

ME: NICE! Very cool. So there seems to be a bit of method to your personal madness?

EMER: Kind of. That initial thing came completely randomly. I decided I wanted to write 18 stories just so there will be lots to read. Then someone I know pointed out that R is the 18th letter of the alphabet. After that, I started thinking and then all of a sudden I had 3 books planned..lol

ME: Very cool. Any other interesting bits readers should look for in your books?

EMER: Not yet. I will probably end up adding other interesting little things like that though. I have a lot of writing to do. lol

ME: Are you working with anyone yet on this project?

Miss & Amie by JWCC

EMER: Well I have this wonderful artist working on an idea for the cover art for the first book. (EMER is working with AMIE – The Web-Comic’s artist/creator, JWCC, for his cover art. We will get a sneak peek when all is ready.)

ME: Any others? How is your following doing since we last spoke to you? we know you started with only 30 followers.

EMER: LOL…It’s amazing. Since my first article with you I now have 68 followers.
I would prefer to call them fans though..lol Followers sounds all cultish..lol

ME: Fans works. Thats over double your readers. Does that excite you as an author?

EMER:Oh yeah. Going from zero to 68 in only four months is pretty awesome.

ME: Can you give us a sample of something you’ve recently completed?

The Woman in the Woods by EMER (First paragraphs)

It was one o’clock in the morning and the house was engulfed in flames. There would be no fireman, or emergency trucks, or police, because they lived so far off the grid that no one even knew they were out there. Maybe someone would notice the smoke after the sun came up, but that was unlikely.

Twelve year old Ozias stood there; face stained black from the smoke, watching as his home burned to the ground. His mother and two sisters didn’t make it out in time, and he was picturing them burning in their beds screaming for help. There was no emotion in his face, his empty black eyes tearless and wide.
