NOM Declares War On General Mills

Marriage Certificate, 1875

Announcer: Do you remember a time when chocolate chips came fresh from the oven? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Fry: Ah, those were the days.

For those who have not figured out what the whole ‘debate’ over traditional marriage is about, that little section of Futurama should give you a hint. You see, when groups like the National Organization for Marriage and Minnesota for Marriage talk about “traditional marriage” they do not actually mean that they want marriage as it is seen today- as a bond of equals, but rather they see it as a patriarchal institution designed to suppress and repress women’s rights.

Businesses, of course, are not really concerned about that, but rather being able to get enough people to work for them. This is why General Mills opposes the marriage bigotry push being touted by NOM and MAM. Here is their latest:

Dear Brian,

The Green Giant, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Trix have all declared war on Marriage.

General Mills has made billions of dollars in marketing these cereals to parents of young children, and they have just declared War on Marriage here in Minnesota.

In what could go down as one of the stupidest PR decisions of all time, General Mills has pro-actively inserted themselves into a divisive social issue that flies in the face of their very business model.

A survey last year by the Alliance Defense Fund found that 63% of Americans with children living at home believe that marriage is ONLY the union of one man and one woman. Those are the very customers that General Mills has just insulted!

Aren’t you just sick and tired of big corporations ignoring your wishes to pander to special interests? It’s actions like those taken by General Mills that sometimes help me understand the whole “Occupy” philosophy against corporations that have lost touch with the people who have made them wealthy.

Please let General Mills hear from you. Call them at 1-800-248-7310 and give them a piece of your mind! Many of you are choosing to boycott the company, and we applaud your decision. And here’s another thing you can do to fight back. Make a donation of at least $20 today to help us fight back against these rich corporations that make unnecessary and damaging choices to appease a small minority of individuals.

Click on one of the products below to donate its cost, along with $20, to preserving traditional marriage here in Minnesota.

Thanks for all you do,

John Helmberger, Chairman

P.S. you may also call General Mills at 1-800-248-7310 and let them know how disappointed you are in their decision.

So, please, call General Mills and let them know that you support them.

Incidentally, you will notice the little bit of propaganda there that twists the reality of the situation. This particular statement “A survey last year by the Alliance Defense Fund found that 63% of Americans with children living at home believe that marriage is ONLY the union of one man and one woman” is so deliberately constructed that it is meaningless. First of all, the Alliance Defense Fund is not reliable due to their deep prejudices against LGBT Americans. Secondly, given their mentality, this is probably just married couples, and they do not specify the age of the children.

The reality is that the guys and gals at NOM are just terrified…of having to go get a real job.

Wow – Helmberger is trying to associate the anti-marriage equality movement with the “occupy” movement!?! It sounds like she never went to any occupy camp EVER.

I am going to support General Mills’ decision to support my desire to (someday) marry by buying at least on of their products (I’d normally buy a generic – I’m on a “special” budget).
