New York Senator Ruben Diaz has shown his hatred for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual New Yorkers time and time again, and his hatred of LGBT people is showing itself again today. He has announced that along with Senator David Storobin, the two have decided to introduce a bill to repeal same-sex marriage in New York.
It is unlikely that this legislation will pass given the various majorities in the state’s Assembly, and the fact that Governor Andrew Cuomo would likely veto it if it got to his desk.
Reverend Diaz, who has put his religion above his oath of office, stated:
As the Senator who has taken the lead to oppose gay marriage in New York, I thank Senator Storobin for giving me the opportunity to join him as a co-sponsor to this historic and pending piece of legislation.
You should also know that so far – as of today – it is only Senator Storobin and me who support this legislation. It will be a difficult and uphill battle. Nonetheless, our struggle will continue as we work to get 30 more Senators to join us. We are not giving up.
As the saying goes, it isn’t over until it’s over!
Reverend Diaz has shown that he has no love for his constituents, nor for the rule of law. Rather, he wants to impose his religious beliefs on others. The question, of course, is will Reverend Diaz push to set precedent and take away the rights of a minority group in defiance of everything that he and his ancestors fought for in the past, or will he finally give in and realize that all people should be treated equally and with dignity?
