130 Representatives File Amicus Brief Calling For End of DOMA

Democrats in Congress are not taking kindly to the waste of money that John Boehner has engaged in with regards to defending the Defense of Marriage Act. One hundred thirty members of Congress have filed a joint amicus brief in support of finding the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. Included among their numbers are Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and all four of the openly gay members of the House- Representatives Tammy Baldwin, Barney Frank, David Cicilline and Jared Polis. They have filed this brief in the case Golinski v. Office of Personnel Management.

The brief argues that Section 3 of DOMA undermines Congress’ interests and is harmful due to its clearly discriminatory purpose. The Department of Justice has asked that the US Supreme Court hear the case along with Massachusetts v. Department of Health and Human Services.

Two of the people who filed the amicus brief are part of the House Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group or BLAG. House Speaker John Boehner formed BLAG in order to give some form of legitimacy to his spending of millions to hire an expensive lawyer and defend DOMA in the courts.
