Arizona Appeals Same-Sex Partner Benefits Ruling

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer

This is not surprising. Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer has asked the United States Supreme Court to overturn a ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding a trial court ruling blocking a law that would have stripped the state’s lesbian and gay workers’ partners of healthcare benefits. Brewer believes that the 9th Circuit railed to interpret the equal-protection clause of the Constitution correctly. They had asked that a full 11-judge panel of the 9th Circuit to hear an appeal of the case, but that was declined.

The plaintiffs in the case have until 9 August to file their response to the petition.

Governor Palpatine and the rest of the social conservatives and tea party fanatics of the Republican Party are the scorpions on the frog’s back as it crosses the river.

These socially-regressive pundits and policy-makers are undermining the party’s chances in the upcoming Fall elections, but alas, they cannot help themselves.
