Former AZ State Senator Pearce Blames Victims For CO Theater Shooting

Apparently Representative Louie Gohmert is not the only Republican who thinks that someone with a gun could have stopped alleged CO gunman James Holmes. Former Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce thinks that someone in the theater should have been able to take Holmes out. He went so far as to attack those who were in the theater stating “All that was needed is one Courages/Brave [sic] man prepared mentally or otherwise to stop this it could have been done.”

ThinkProgress notes that the post on Facebook has been pulled down.

To begin with, Cinemark has a no firearms policy in place, but let us just say that someone had a gun in there. It is going to be a standard pistol with standard ammunition, right?

Holmes was wearing full body protection including helmet, throat and groin protection, and kevlar across his whole body. He was also heavily armed and was walking away from the screen in a dark room. He could see people, but they could not see him. Furthermore, he had full range of people to shoot at, but this courageous or brave person would have had to hit Holmes in a lucky spot while there were people around him getting in the way- and he could not see Holmes properly. Making matters worse, Holmes deployed tear gas into the room before opening fire.

You had better hope that your first shot kills Holmes instantly in this situation, because your second won’t happen as you will be dead. It took 90 seconds for him to kill or wound more than 70 people, and he often shot at anyone who was screaming or trying to leave.

Pearce was confronted about his insensitivity and tried to walk back his statements saying that gun control laws are to blame for this. Of course, this is the man who wrote SB1070 and is extremely racist towards Latinos.
