Gaga’s “Fame” Ad Aims to Shock, But Does It?

Are you shocked?

Lady Gaga’s latest attempt to shock the world with art is her perfume ad. Yes, it comes in a elegant black bottle. …AND? The page ad is simple Gaga nude with a mask and tiny little men crawling all over her. THIS is supposed to shock me? Really? I mean, its perfume. Probably perfume I can’t afford, but perfume all the same. And Lady Gaga naked? Pah-leese! I’m an artist. The human form is nothing shocking to me. I model nude for art classes. Another twiggy female baring her goodies is not shocking to me. As for the tiny men crawling all over her? —I’m sure there is a “gay boy’s dream” joke in there somewhere.

Yes, artistically it is a pretty piece of advertising, but as far as “shocking”, I’m unimpressed. =(

I doubt she intended to be shocking. It’s a perfume ad meant to pique interest.

LOL. Nope. You and I were probably among millions staring slack-jawed at those nice proportions.

I don’t think Gaga intended this to be shocking. I think she intended it to be beautiful, mysterious, and sensual, and the photo accomplishes those things. As for affording Fame, prices run from $20 for a roll-on to $80 for the deluxe version she holds in the photo. There are several other intermediate sizes and offerings like soap and lotion so affordability shouldn’t be a problem for most of her fans.
