The National Organization for Marriage is trying to push back against the reports that support for repealing marriage equality in Iowa is waning. Trying being the operative word here. The above video is what they use to prove that these reports are lies. Note that the camera that is recording Brian Brown, the President of NOM, is stationary. It never moves from that spot, which appears to be about two rows back into the audience. In total, his audience appears to be, what, three people?
Actually, there’s probably a few dozen people there tops, but that’s the point, isn’t it? This is a classic trick. Ever notice how Conservatives never actually address your points, but try to divert attention from them? Yes, there’re people there, and there’s enthusiastic applause, but it’s all meaningless. You see, even a member of the KKK can get a few dozen people to show up for a speech, but it does not mean that the whole of any given area supports their cause.
NOM wrote on their blog that:
The AP tries to claim that interest in repealing SSM in Iowa is “flagging” — just what the mainstream media wants us to believe about a heartland state ripe for restoring the true definition of marriage:
“…Iowa became the third of six states to legalize gay marriage after the state Supreme Court struck down the state ban in 2009. Since then about 4,500 gay couples have wed here.
Republicans can move to end gay marriage if they win two more seats in the state Senate this year, a goal that could be within reach. That would give them full control of the statehouse and the power to begin preparing a public referendum on the issue.”
NOM is so desperate for money and support that they do not even mention the fact that many Iowa Republicans are now shying away from the issue, and the fact that a referendum takes two consecutive and distinct Assembly votes and then a vote by the public in its entirety. The earliest a repeal of marriage equality can go through to the ballot is 2016. By that point, Iowans won’t care.
NOM is relying upon their supporters not to think this one through.

NOM’s goose is cooked. Come November marriage
equality will be affirmed in Maryland +19%.
Maryland +20%, Washington +21%, and perhaps
Minnesota +6% This according to Public Policy
Polling. To say nothing of the demise of Prop 8
and DOMA. NOM is a house of cards.
