Way back in the third season of The Muppet Show, there is an episode with Sylvester Stallone. One of the running gags is about all the groupies that are following Stallone around- including Scooter. You read that right. The episode kind of implies that Scooter- the theater’s gopher- could be gay. It was not something that I picked up on when I was young, but it is something that I picked up watching the series three decades later.
Today, the Jim Henson Company, named for late founder Jim Henson, issued this statement regarding Chick-fil-A and their homophobic stance:
The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD
We await word from the National Organization for Marriage, the American Family Association, and One Million Moms about their boycotts of Jim Henson Company’s products. Of course, maybe if they watched them a bit more, they would learn about diversity and acceptance.
Here is, perhaps, my favorite song from the Muppets:
adamas
