New Hampshire Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien revealed his plans on tackling his state’s economic woes- ban same-sex marriage. Maintaining the usual beliefs before facts type of thinking that exemplifies the Right Wing mindset, O’Brien told NH Public Radio’s The Exchange that he believes that same-sex marriage harms the family and that leads to greater government spending.
O’Brien stated that “If our families are weak, then we’ll never be able to have final fiscal responsibility, because if government needs to step up for weakened families then there’s going to be an unlimited call on government resources. One of the things that makes our families strong is a traditional definition of marriage and I firmly believe that.”
He had better get ready to ban divorce. Studies have shown that divorce actually does more harm to children than same-sex marriage. In fact, the studies have shown that same-sex marriage does no damage to families or children.
The Republican-controlled House, however, disagrees with him regarding overturning the state’s two year old marriage law. Last March, a bill that sought to overturn the marriage law was soundly defeated.
