Somehow I missed the attempt by the Alliance Defense Fund to reinvent itself by renaming itself the Alliance Defending Freedom. It doesn’t change anything, of course. The ADF decided to go on the offensive by being, well, offensive and try to attack LGBT activists by comparing them to polygamists and racists who tried to “redefine” marriage. Never mind the fact that it was those who fought racism who actually redefined marriage culminating in the case Loving v. Virginia where bans on interracial marriage were finally taken down.
What the Family Research Council, the National Organization for Marriage, the Alliance Defending Freedom, the American Family Association and the rest of them do not understand is that they would not be seen as hate groups if they lobbied based upon facts and realities. That they feel a need to lie about what they believe in and the motives behind what they advocate is at the center of why they are hate groups. Those who defend truth must rely upon truth. Those who defend lies rely upon lies. That they twist facts in order to maintain their political positions just shows that they are not defending a truth, but perpetuating a lie.
